Montpelier Art Trail

A few weekends ago I was on the Montpelier Art Trail, Bristol. So lots of signs and balloons, however with people trickling I felt like I was missing out on the Montpelier May Fayre just around the corner, so after a few hours the 'Artful Trolley' wheeled its way across to join the bustle.

On sale were many original works, some framed some not, as well as many original and digital prints. A full selection of works for sale will appear here shortly . . . .

art+power

I have been dedicating some of my time to volunteering with the Bristol based group art+power. Art+power are a charity devoted to helping people to help themselves through creative practices; this is done through goal setting, personal achievements, enjoyment, challenging themselves, working with others, overcoming difficulties, etc. Giving people the tools to drive themselves with whatever they want. The program is open to everyone but has a focus on people who are socially excluded and those with mental illness.

The result of this not only have I been involved in the goings on of the various programs run but also I recently ran a workshop covering artist books/book arts. The session went really well! Everyone involved engaged with the subject and got thoroughly stuck in. The sessions consisted of a talk (with lovely examples on loan from Sarah Bodman at the book arts department in CFFPR) and also a workshop where participants learnt how to make a few simple book binding techniques.

This was a very good learning experience for others as well as for myself, as this was my first time teaching and it definitely taught me a thing or two about speaking louder among other things!

Picton Street Fayre

I'm set up to hold a pop-up open house event and open up my doors in the name of art! Sadly the Montpelier Art Trail is no more after a good few years but this time it has joined with the amazing Picton Street Fayre this bank holiday weekend. The fayre and trail are both on Saturday the 4th May. There will be stalls, drinks, food and bands on Picton Street Bristol, and I will be selling originals, framed and unframed items, prints, books, cards. Anything that stays with me will be quickly put up on shop section of my website so if nobody else grabs the deals feel free to email me . . .!
I'll also update on my blog images of the set up as well as the signs that I'm producing for the event.

Set up to be a good one

Sofa King

Just started a new project with a good friend of mine Alec Morton, to get us into practise with typography the game is any hiphop lyrics we like, the aim is to learn our letters and possibly do something with the work produced.

Think I'm the first to finish one, but will post whatever he bats back. . . .

Dragilla!

I was lucky enough to have one of my designs chosen from the Great Gorilla Project which I sent in entries a few months ago and have just got back from painting the sculpture in the Guildhall Shopping Centre, Exeter. I was situated in a vacant shop window so that lots of people could view me working, and lots of little kids pulling faces through the glass  : D
The Whole experience was great fun and am thrilled to have taken part in such an event. I was the first to complete my gorilla so it shall remain on view for a few weeks and slowly be joined by all the other South Devon artist's gorillas.
It's much better in the flesh so get down for a look while you can and before it's moved from front view.

There are also lots of other aspects running with this project, one of which will be a miniature trail at the Babbacome Model Village which am excited about.

Here's a few snaps of the finished gorilla . . .

Here are some teasers of the Paper project including two that didn't make the cut (one of which was my most accurate and accidental self portrait ever). A little late for teasing but you know you love it
